NOTES FOR CLEAR POLYCARBONATE VISORS

Polycarbonate melts at 135°C. Temperatures below refer to the temperature at the heat source.

1. Transparent visors, shade 4-1.2, can be used for temperatures up to 1050°C
2. Gold coated, clear base visors, shade 4-4 can be used for temperatures up to 1290°C
3. Gold coated, green base visors, shade 4-5 can be used for temperatures up to 1390°C

The gold coating will reflect 90% of the thermal radiation. However, when selecting clear polycarbonate visors one needs to consider:

1. The maximium heat in the heart of the heat source. 
2. The distance from the heat source given that radiation decreases strongly with distance.
3. The time spent in front of the heat source.F

INFRA – RED (IR) RADIATION ABSORPTION - Clear Polycarbonate IR shade 4-1.2

The amount of IR absorbed will be dependent on the wavelength.

Light transmission for clear polycarbonate is between 74.4% and 100%

1. For IR radiation between 780nm to 1400nm: 94.5% of IR is absorbed or reflected

2. For IR radiation between 780nm to 2000nm:  47.1% of IR is absorbed or reflected
